Teide National Park
The Teide National Park is not missing from any guide to the island. And it is not surprising, since if you want to experience an ideal week in Tenerife it must be among your essential places. The beauty of its volcanic landscapes and its 3718 meters high (the highest point in Spain) are more than enough reasons to make it worth a visit.
Local tip: when you go up to the Teide National Park you will be able to contemplate beautiful landscapes from the different viewpoints that you will find along the way. If you are lucky, you will observe a natural spectacle that surprises many visitors: the sea of clouds!
San Cristóbal de La Laguna
Teide National Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. The city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna can also boast of this recognition, obtaining the title in 1999. Therefore, these two places should be in your planning!
San Cristóbal de La Laguna stands out for its original intact layout with more than 600 buildings of historical relevance. It was for more than 300 years the capital of the island, as well as the most important city in the Canary Islands, as stated on the La Laguna Tourism website.
In San Cristóbal de La Laguna you will find a wide range of leisure activities. As soon as you step on its streets you will feel the good atmosphere that floods the city, given in large part by being the university city of the island. In short, make a stop in this municipality and boast on arrival that you have spent an ideal week in Tenerife.
Local tip: There are more beautiful villages in Tenerife! Therefore, if you like to make this type of visit on your trips, we also recommend the historic center of La Orotava, Garachico or Icod de los Vinos (with its surprising Drago Milenario)
Ideal week in Tenerife: Places to take a good dip
Surely if you want to travel to Tenerife it is because of the good climate that characterizes the Canary archipelago throughout the year. And of course, for its beaches, natural puddles and swimming pools.
It is very difficult to select the best places to take a good dip, as it will depend on the area where you are staying and your tastes. If you are looking for black sand beaches we recommend Playa Jardín (Puerto de La Cruz), El Bollullo (La Orotava), Playa El Socorro (Los Realejos), Playa de Benijo (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), Playa de La Arena (Tacoronte) or Playa de Los Guías (Santiago del Teide).
If, on the other hand, you prefer white sandy beaches, you will also find several options. For example Playa de Las Vistas, Playa de las Teresitas (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), Playa El Duque (Adeje) or Playa Abama (Guía de Isora).
And finally, in your ideal week in Tenerife, you can’t miss a dip in a natural puddle. The Charco de La Laja (San Juan de la Rambla), Charco del Viento (La Guacha) or El Caletón (Garachico) stand out.
Local tip: La Tejita Beach (Granadilla de Abona), Punta de Teno (Buenavista) or the isolated Diego Hernández Beach (Adeje) are ideal if you are looking for tranquility and rest.
More nature
In addition to the Teide National Park, there are other areas of the island that are worth a visit due to their natural wealth :
Anaga Rural Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve. It has the largest representation of laurel forest on the island and ravines and valleys that do not leave you indifferent.
Teno Rural Park, another of the most beautiful natural spaces on the island. Its cultural and ecological richness is largely due to its isolation.
Activities
Combining visits to the main points of interest in Tenerife with some of the best activities will make your stay on the island unforgettable. Here are some of the activities that would be in our top for an ideal week in Tenerife:
Observe stars, planets and satellites in the Teide National Park, one of the best skies in the world for astronomical observation. And if you see a shooting star… remember to ask as I wish to return to Tenerife!
Spend a fun day at the attractions of Siam Park or at the Loro Parque Zoo. Without a doubt, an ideal plan if you are travelling with children (if you visit the island with your family, we recommend reading “The best things to do in Tenerife with the family”)
Discover the ethnographic value of the Pyramids of Güímar (more information in our article “Discover the enigmatic Pyramids of Güímar”)
Take one of the hiking routes that you will find on the Turismo de Tenerife website. They vary in distance, degree of difficulty, duration… There are routes for the whole family!
Check the calendar of festivities and enjoy the most popular celebrations (pilgrimages, carnivals…) like a local.
If you like shopping, visit one of the shopping centres on the island such as the Meridiano Shopping Centre or the La Villa Shopping Centre (if you want to know more, don’t miss our article “The best shopping centres in Tenerife“)
