Shopping in Tenerife

Somewhere here, you'll find just what you're looking for

Good, nice and cheap

When we travel, we can’t help but browse through the shops or take a look at the prices we find on our way. In fact, it’s a very good way to get in touch with the local culture… And it’s a lot of fun, too! If you’re thinking of doing some shopping in Tenerife, you’ve come to the right place.

Tenerife has a vast commercial offer with very juicy prices.

On the island of Tenerife you have at your fingertips a vast commercial offer that ranges from the most authentic local artisan products to the most refined international brand items. And, as in the entire Canary Islands, prices are usually very attractive, as Canary Islands taxation is one of the lowest in Europe.

Throughout the length and breadth of the island you will find shopping centres, markets and shops to spend the day among stalls and shop windows, to locate that typical product that you have been ordered or simply to satisfy your hunger for shopping. Shopping in Tenerife is, of course, a good idea.

When you do your shopping in Tenerife you will notice certain differences compared to other places. Shopping malls are often in the open air, certain items (electronics, notably) can arrive here earlier than elsewhere, and haggling is not uncommon. So get your wallet ready, take your time, and enjoy. Do you already know where you’re going? Read…

In the northern part of the island

The northern area is home to the island’s largest cities, but also the most rural and traditional areas. You’ll find that it’s pretty easy to access a wide variety of products. These are our favourite places to shop in Tenerife north.

Shall we start with the capital? If we think of shopping in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, we automatically think of the streets of El Castillo (shoes, accessories, perfumes) and Pilar (the latter full of large firms), the shopping area par excellence. But also in the Nuestra Señora de África market, with 200 stalls of agricultural products, or (of course) in El Corte Inglés.

We continue in the north, but we change location: San Cristóbal de La Laguna. In the other capital of the island, the Market of the Plaza del Cristo and its varied offer of consumables and the streets Obispo Rey Redondo and Herradores (fashion, decoration, bookshops, cafes) stand out. You can also go to the Tegueste Market, a little to the north, if you want crafts and first-class agricultural products.

Continuing with shopping in Tenerife along the coast we will reach the most authentic part of the island, the valley of La Orotava. At the Tacoronte Farmer’s Market you will come face to face with local producers who bring the products of their garden directly to the market, and in La Orotava, the headquarters of the Insular Craft Company, with ceramics, textiles, fretwork or carvings handmade in accordance with tradition.

In the southern part of the island

The southern coast of the island is the most touristic area of the island. Thus, as you can imagine, doing your shopping in Tenerife south is very easy, and you can choose from many different places to do so.

When we think of shopping in Tenerife, Costa Adeje is the first thing that comes to mind. El Mirador is a delightful open-air centre with charming little shops, pleasant terraces and a wide range of restaurants. The Plaza del Duque Shopping Centre is the most exclusive on the island, where luxury brands and personalised attention are the norm. Lovers of street markets cannot miss the Baratillo de Los Verdes!

If Adeje is a commercial emporium, Arona is not far behind. A little further south, in Playa de las Américas, we find the so-called “Canarian golden mile” on the avenue of the same name. Window after window alternates high-end boutiques, classic Canarian bazaars and shopping arcades such as Safari, Oasis or Parque Santiago 3. And there is no shortage of gastronomic offerings either.

It is also worth visiting Parque Santiago 6, a shopping centre with a beautiful design and wonderfully equipped to spend the day with the family thanks to its children’s facilities and its wide range of leisure and restaurants. As you can imagine, it is full of varied establishments where you will find fashion, accessories, home, beauty, sport, gifts… In short, the perfect store plan.

And, in any case, if you don’t find anything you like, at least you will have walked, searched, tested, compared, haggled… in short, you will have had a very fun day shopping in Tenerife, even if you don’t take anything home!
