Shopping in Tenerife

Somewhere around here, you’ll find just what you’re looking for.

Good, nice and cheap.

When we travel, we can’t avoid pry into the shops or take a look at the prices. In fact, it’s a great way to get in touch with the local culture… And it’s also a lot of fun! If you are thinking of doing some shopping in Tenerife, you have come to the right place.

Tenerife has a vast commercial offer with very juicy prices.

On the island of Tenerife you have at your fingertips a vast commercial offer that ranges from the most authentic local artisan products to the most refined international brands. And, as in the whole of the Canary Islands, prices are usually very attractive, as the Canary Islands tax system is one of the lowest in Europe.

Throughout the island you will find malls, markets and shops to spend the day between stalls and shop windows, to locate the typical product you have been ordered or simply to satisfy your hunger for shopping. Shopping at Tenerife is, of course, a good idea.

When you are doing it, you will notice certain differences in comparison to other places. The malls are often open-air, certain items (electronics, notably) can get here sooner than elsewhere, and bargaining is not uncommon. So, get your wallet ready, take your time and enjoy. In the northern zone of the island

In the northern zone are located the biggest cities of the island, but also the most rural and traditional areas. You will see that it is quite easy to access a wide variety of products. These are our favorite places to shop in Tenerife North.

Shall we start in the capital? If we think of shopping in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, we automatically think of the streets of Castillo (shoes, accessories, perfumes) and Pilar (this last one full of big firms), the commercial area par excellence. But also, in the market of Our Lady of Africa, with 200 stalls of agricultural products, or (of course) in El Corte Inglés.

We continue in the north, but change location: San Cristóbal de La Laguna. In the other capital of the island, the Market of the Plaza del Cristo and its varied supply of consumables and the streets of Obispo Rey Redondo and Herradores (fashion, decoration, bookstores, cafeterias) stand out above all. You can also go to the Tegueste Market, a little to the north, if you want first-class crafts and agricultural products.

Continuing the shopping in Tenerife along the coast we will arrive at the most authentic part of the island, the valley of La Orotava. In the Tacoronte Farmer’s Market you will find yourself face to face with local producers who bring products from their orchard directly to the market, and in La Orotava, the headquarters of Empresa Insular de Artesanía, with ceramics, textiles, openwork or hand-made carvings according to tradition.

In the southern part of the island

The southern coast of the island is the most touristic area of the island. So, as you can imagine, shopping in Tenerife South is very easy, and you will be able to choose between very different places for it.

When we think of shopping in Tenerife, Costa Adeje is the first thing that comes to mind. El Mirador is a delicious open-air center with nice little shops, pleasant terraces and a wide range of restaurants. The Plaza del Duque Shopping Center is the most exclusive on the island, where luxury brands and personalized attention are the norm – market lovers can’t miss the Baratillo de Los Verdes!

If Adeje is a commercial emporium, Arona is not left behind. A little further south, in Playa de las Américas, we find in the avenue of the same name the so-called “Canarian golden mile”. There are boutiques of high standing, the classic canary bazaars and shopping galleries such as Safari, Oasis or Parque Santiago 3. And the gastronomic offer is not lacking either.

It is also worth visiting Parque Santiago 6, a beautifully designed and well-equipped shopping center for spending the day with the family, thanks to its children’s facilities and its wide range of leisure and restaurant options. As you can imagine, it is full of varied establishments where you will find fashion, accessories, home, beauty, sports, gifts … In short, the perfect shopping plan.
