Puerto de la Cruz is the key point to get to know the north of the island of Tenerife: it is located in the center of the north, just 30 to 40 minutes from both ends. In the extreme west, Teno, Garachico and other municipalities of the lower island; in the extreme east is Santa Cruz, La Laguna and the rural park of Anaga. Puerto de la Cruz is the ideal place to get to know a side of Tenerife totally different from the south and an extensive and varied gastronomic offer. And it is located near other municipalities where you can taste the most typical food of the island, in the well-known guachinches of Santa Ursula for example.

Other places of interest are the church of Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia or the Taoro Park. Throughout the city there are numerous streets with stores where you can shop and buy souvenirs of our trip to Tenerife, especially in the Paseo de San Telmo and then Quintana Street. Essential in Puerto de la Cruz

During your visit to Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz has a series of must-visit places that will make your vacation a unique experience. The first and best known internationally is the Loro Parque, which since its opening in 1972 has not stopped reaping success and receiving thousands of tourists. Although it was originally inaugurated as an exclusive parrot park, over the years a long list of different species (lions, alligators, red pandas, hippos, dolphins, orcas…) have been incorporated. You will find attractions such as Naturavision, Kinderlandia, Katandra Treetops, the Zen Garden, the Aquarium and several restaurants and stores.

Another must-see in Puerto de la Cruz is Lago Martianez, a complex with seven swimming pools and a large lake, filled with sea water and surrounded by gardens and hammocks. In addition, it was designed by the artist and sculptor César Manrique, who sought harmony between art and nature.

Weather in Puerto de la Cruz

The climate of the north of Tenerife, being more humid, makes it greener than the south of the island. However, in Puerto de la Cruz, this is combined with the proximity to the coast, providing the municipality with a mildness and thermal stability throughout the year. Temperatures are pleasant even in the winter months: the annual average ranges between 17 and 25ºC. That is why the beach can be enjoyed at any time of the year. It is not superfluous to check the weather in Puerto de la Cruz.

The sea in northern Tenerife has a smoother swell in the summer and autumn months, due to the currents coming from the Atlantic, ideal for swimming. In the winter and spring months the waves are stronger, being perfect for practicing some water sports such as surfing.

What to do in Puerto de la Cruz for free?

Throughout the year there are many events in the streets of Puerto de la Cruz that you do not have to pay to attend: Mueca, Beer Festivals… In addition, not all clubs and discos charge admission to go out at night. Likewise, to enjoy Puerto de la Cruz for free you just have to go out in the street. Strolling through its streets is a more than satisfactory plan, as you will enjoy the weather and the architecture of its historic buildings. If you prefer, you can also walk along the promenades next to the beach or even on the sand itself. A great swim at the beach is the best fun and free of charge.
