Loro Parque opened its doors in 1972 and since then it has not stopped reaping success and receiving thousands of tourists. Although it was originally inaugurated as an exclusive parrot park, over the years a long list of different species (lions, alligators, red pandas, hippos, dolphins, killer whales…) and some attractions within the enclosure have been incorporated such as Naturavisión, Kinderlandia, Katandra Treetops, the Zen Garden, the Aquarium and various restaurants and shops.
If you prefer to take a dip and enjoy the weather, another “must” to do in Puerto de la Cruz is Lake Martiánez, an architectural work by the Canarian artist César Manrique. The large main lake is surrounded by other smaller pools for all tastes: all saltwater. Sunbeds and gardens are scattered around the pools so you can stand close to your favorite while sunbathing before jumping into the water.
You can also lie on some of the beaches if you choose to put your feet in the sand or feel the swaying of the waves of the sea. On the other hand, for a more cultural tourism, you will always have some visits to make in Puerto de la Cruz to its museums: The Fisherman’s Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Puerto de la Cruz and the MACEW – Eduardo Westerdahl Museum of Contemporary Art.
