The plans in La Orotava are varied and are linked to nature, culture and history

One of the main activities to do in La Orotava is to walk along its historic center and admire the architecture of its buildings. The balconies, decorated in detail, stand out on the facades of many of the old houses. If you want to get closer to the culture and customs of the Canary Islands, we recommend you visit the  House of the Balconies.

It is a construction that dates back to the seventeenth century and currently houses an interesting museum with ancient objects and samples of artisanal techniques such as fretwork and rosette. Next to it you will find the  Museum of Carpets. In this case, it compiles information about the popular carpets with flowers and volcanic sands that are made every year during the Corpus Christi Festivities.

And continuing with the cultural visits, La Orotava also hosts the Museum of Ibero-American Crafts of Tenerife (MAIT), located in the former convent of San Benito Abad, another of the most emblematic buildings in the old town. You can’t leave the historic center without first strolling through Jardín Victoria and the  Hijuela del Botánico, two beautiful parks surrounded by vegetation and free admission.

Among the essential plans to do in La Orotava is to go up to the Teide National Park, a natural symbol of the island of Tenerife. Once in the park, in addition to marveling at the volcanic formations, you will be able to live a magical experience: climb to the top of this imposing volcano of 3718 meters high… By cable car!  From the peak of Mount Teide the views are impressive, and you can even see other islands of the Canary archipelago.

And finally, we cannot close this article without first mentioning its beaches, Playa del Bollullo, Playa de los Patos and Playa del Ancón. Bathing in the Atlantic Ocean and feeling the volcanic sand under your feet is undoubtedly an unforgettable experience. Now that you know what to do in La Orotava, we hope to see you soon in this beautiful municipality.
