Arona is a municipality in the south of Tenerife and is located between the municipalities of Adeje, Vilaflor and San Miguel de Abona. With an area of more than 80 km2, the landscapes vary depending on the altitude and proximity to the sea. In total, there are four different areas to see in Arona: the first is Playa de las Américas, next to it is Los Cristianos, and followed by Costa del Silencio and Las Galletas. All three are on the coast, while the last area, Arona , is located at a higher altitude above sea level.
“A man without a landscape is totally unarmed” Patrick Modiano, novelist
The first area to see in Arona is Playa de las Américas, where white sandy landscapes and promenades reign supreme where you can enjoy the views of the sea and the sea breeze. In addition, its streets and avenues are ideal for seeing shops and even emblematic buildings such as the Pyramid of Arona. Right next door, in the Los Cristianos area, you can distinguish a contrast between the tourist area and its fishing atmosphere: Las Vistas beach and Los Cristianos beach are proof of this. Between Playa de Las Américas and Los Cristianos is the Chayofita Mountain, which you can walk up and admire from the top a different perspective of the coast.
Another area to see in Arona is Costa del Silencio and Las Galletas, which although it also has beaches, its orography is more rocky and reflects the volcanic origin of the Canary Islands. An ideal landscape to enjoy from the promenade, from the natural pool of Costa del Silencio or from the depths, as it is a diving highlight in Tenerife.
Finally, the fourth area, further from the coast and at a higher altitude, is Arona Rural. It is home to the historic centre, and differs from the other three mentioned by its typical architecture and its landscape more typical of mountains than coastal areas. The church of San Antonio Abad, the wooden balconies and the Canarian patios stand out. Enjoy Arona to the fullest!
