Things to see in La Orotava

La Orotava is a municipality located in the north of Tenerife and has one of the most beautiful historic centres on the island. In its streets you can breathe the stately style that has always characterized it, with old houses perfectly preserved. Walking through its historic centre you can get to know the main points of interest to see in La Orotava. A mandatory stop on your holiday to the island!

“I confess that I have never seen anywhere a more varied, more attractive and more harmonious picture in the distribution of the masses of greenery and rocks”- Alexander von Humboldt on La Orotava Valley

Taking a route through the old town of the municipality is the best way to get to know the roots of Tenerife. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1976 and among its cobbled streets you will find buildings of great value such as the Casa de los Balcones, the City Hall, the Liceo de Taoro, the Jardines de Victoria, the Church of the Concepción, the Church and former convent of San Agustín, among others. Once you have known the historic site of the city, what better plan than to climb to the highest point of the island (and of Spain) and admire the beauty of its volcanic landscapes.

La Orotava is the largest municipality in Tenerife and occupies 78% of the Teide National Park, a natural area declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. During the ascent to Mount Teide the views are unique, and you can even enjoy the sea of clouds, a natural phenomenon that takes place between 500 and 1500 metres above sea level. Padre Teide, as the locals know it, must be among your must-sees in La Orotava and Tenerife.

In addition to its incredible volcanic landscapes and its well-kept historical site, La Orotava is also sea and black sand. On its coast you will find wild beaches surrounded by a unique natural landscape. The most popular beach to see in La Orotava is Playa del Bollullo, but it is not the only one. To this are added the Playa de los Patos and Playa del Ancón. If you are looking for a place to disconnect, these beaches are the best option. Sea, volcanic landscapes, history and architecture… La Orotava has everything you need to make your holiday last in your memory forever. Are you coming to meet her?
