Los Chollos de Tenerife Pass, the Alternative to Groupon Tenerife

In times of post-covid-19 crisis, we are all looking for bargains or bargains through web portals such as Groupon Tenerife, Bonosvip or Gustazos where we can spend our money in the best possible way. Now more than ever, we must be able to do more with less….

This applies to all aspects of the household economy, and especially leisure activities and experiences that, although they cannot yet be considered a basic necessity, are very important for one’s health and mental well-being .

Now, is Groupon Tenerife the best option to be able to do more with less? or the Tenerife Pass itself and its bargains may be more attractive to you… and your pocket!

Origin of Groupon

The company began, as it could not be otherwise, in the United States, in the city of Chicago in November 2008.

The idea of its 3 founders (Andrew Mason, Eric Lefkofsky and Brad Keywell) was very simple: to generate a community of users who will come together to make collective purchases of products or services and thus obtain better prices than those that could be obtained individually. It is something as basic as the implementation of the old popular saying “unity is strength” applied to the consumer economy.

The very name Groupon that they gave to their idea reflects that idea “group” as a reference to the notion of buying community and “coupon” in relation to the famous discount coupons, legendary in the retail sector in the United States.

Many companies have imitated this successful business model. In the case of the Canary Islands, Gustazos and Bonosvip are 2 clear examples.

Why choose Groupon Tenerife?

There must be something interesting about this group buying model so that in its day, after operating only a couple of years, Google offered its owners about 5.75 billion dollars for their company. The offer was rejected and its owners opted to take Groupon Inc. public, thus materializing the second largest IPO in the history of the Internet!

In any case, the luck you have is that for you the approach is much simpler. If you have subscribed (as you would do on another competitor’s portal as we saw last week) and if not by going directly to the Groupon Tenerife website, you will have access to the multitude of offers that have been negotiated for you.

You will find offers for all kinds of things and services: from a voucher for the interior and exterior cleaning of your car for less than €40 in Santa Cruz to a stay in a hotel in the archipelago with access to the spa and a couple’s massage for less than €150.

Are There Special Offers for Residents?

The short answer to this question is no. Groupon Tenerife offers directly and for everyone quite aggressive discounts and promotions and in this case the same prices will be valid whether you are a Canarian resident or if you are just visiting the island.

It must be recognized that this approach is quite logical if we take into account the global nature of this company and therefore its inability to adapt to the idiosyncrasy of the Canary Islands in this case… And in the end there is still to be proven on the island that the resident eats less than the non-resident!!

What Kind of Deals Do You Have?

At Groupon Canarias, most of the offers and promotions focus on 2 categories of activity: what to do in Tenerife on the one hand, and gastronomic offers on the other hand.

Offers on what to do in Tenerife

The main leisure activities offered on the island by Groupon Tenerife are focused on leisure offers and outdoor activities where 5 activities reign:

Quads

dive
paraglider
surf
Cooking Courses

The offers themselves are not bad, but the biggest problem we find has to do with the provision of services that we get for the money paid… And it is that “cheap is sometimes expensive” We give you an example in the following paragraph.

Food Offers in Tenerife

Groupon’s gastronomic offers in the Canary Islands are the ones that occupy most of the showcase of offers proposed by this company. The offers are super attractive since the proposed discounts can theoretically reach 70% of the normal value of the dishes or menus offered.

Of course, if we look carefully at the comments and opinions left by other users of the platform, we realize that the experience is not always the desired one in those restaurants or guachinches on the island. If we consider a bad rating any score below 4 (out of 5), you will surely agree with us that some experiences proposed by Groupon Tenerife have bad ratings.

What is sometimes the reason for this bad score? Well, sometimes the economic pressure exerted by the Groupon seller on the business is excessive, even demanding discounts and unfeasible prices for the restaurant that has no other option than to save on the kitchen in one way or another so as not to lose even the shirt selling 3-course menus for 2 people for less than 30 euros!

We invite you to always take the time to see what reviews other users have made of their experience before buying, you will avoid any disappointment for sure… As a customer of this type of platform you should know that there are obviously bargains and bargains and do not forget that your goal is to enjoy what you are interested in making things go well!

Advantages and Disadvantages for Groupon Restaurant

We have tried to focus so far mainly on the end-user experience with Groupon Tenerife , but we understand that we cannot end this article without commenting on the experience of restaurant professionals.

The 3 main advantages

1. If You’ve Just Opened Your Venue

Groupon Tenerife can be very useful to make yourself known if you have just opened your store and need advertising. It must be recognized that they invest a lot in marketing and advertising and therefore indirectly your restaurant or your activity will benefit from advertising made to promote you.

The idea here is that you focus on working as best as possible with your private selling client so that they make the next booking directly through your website.

2. If you have a lazier day

In all businesses, and especially those in the restaurant industry, there is usually a day of less work. You don’t know why but it turns out that on Tuesday night there is no way to fill more than 3 tables in your pizzeria…. Well, maybe it’s time to consider some kind of coupon or similar to try to increase your workload that day.

Don’t lose sight of the fact that the (almost) only additional expense that a customer generates is the raw material they consume, which usually does not represent more than 33% of the final sale price, since your staff and your premises, with or without customers, continue to cost you money every day.

3. Sales Volume

Depending on how your business activity is, it is very likely that you will be interested in launching an offer from time to time also because of the volume that Groupon Tenerife can generate for you. It is a marketing machine, and things as they are, they can generate large volumes of turnover if the offer you publish is good.

What does “good” offer mean? Well, simply that the quality/price ratio must be higher than the customer’s expectations. Again, don’t forget that what you want is for the customer to repeat in your restaurant directly, you have to build loyalty and for this they will have to spend a memorable moment with you!

The 3 main drawbacks

1. Cheap Positioning

One of the things we often hear is that Groupon Tenerife’s customers are not my type of clientele and “position me as a trinket product”. Well, very easy, we don’t agree at all!

The fundamental thing here is the customer’s opinion and the feeling with which they leave our premises. In other words, although the price is an important factor for those who buy this type of voucher (by the way, there are very few people in this world who don’t really care about the price), it should be noted that the service is just as important or even more so.

From Tenerife Pass, we understand that it is probably a better idea to change the menus to propose special offers before trying to sell a steak at €8 that will only generate problems with the end customer (size of the piece, quality of it to name the 2 most obvious). Let’s sell good things but a little cheaper and so everyone is delighted!

2. Low Quality of Service and/or Customer Service

Here we must be very clear: as a restaurant professional, we must be serious, if we sign up for an offer and frame it in certain conditions of use and consumption, then there is no choice but to comply with it when a customer presents itself to us.

The customer of Groupon Tenerife is not to blame for the fact that 10 people showed up that day with a 50% discount voucher…. It is never really a good idea to worsen the service provided to see “if I get rid of them quickly” since this can only harm your business, and especially because of the online reviews that we will be commenting on shortly in this blog.

3. Very High Commissions and Dying of Success

In addition to the discount demanded by Groupon, we must add the high commission that this company demands, which is usually more than 30% of the final sale price. so you have to think carefully about the number of vouchers that you are willing to sell and do your numbers well to avoid “dying of success”, since the cheaper the offer, the more likely it is to work and therefore our restaurant to go bankrupt!

Don’t forget that the commercial aggressiveness of this company is as good or as bad as you let it be with you, whether you are a user and you must be sure of what you are buying, or if you are the owner of a restaurant and you are considering making an offer.
